DESCRIPTION
Performs work in all aspects of the library, including support at the Circulation Desk, preparing materials for circulation, shelving and shelf-reading, providing assistance to library patrons, and other duties as assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Circulation Manager. This position will be scheduled for 12-20 hours per week. Every other Saturday and occasional evening work is required. Although the position is based at the Chatham Community Library, this role may be asked to work at other locations on an as-needed basis.
Performs circulation duties and ensures materials are in order. Answers telephone, renews materials, places requested materials on hold; Registers new library patrons, manages patron registration information; Provides assistance to library patrons relating to library computers; Assists patrons with locating materials; receives interlibrary loan requests; Receives money for copies, lost or damaged books, and replacement of cards; Assists with opening and closing procedures; Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in library or public service work, or a combination of education and experience. General knowledge of library procedures and techniques;
General knowledge of library circulation functions; General knowledge of office procedures and records maintenance; Skill in the use of library equipment, materials, and resources; Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
SALARY
$15.00 per hour
