Qualifications: The Collection Development and Metadata Librarian provides leadership in building, managing, and evaluating the Library’s collections to support the mission of Johnson C. Smith University. Working with minimal supervision, this position analyzes and administers the collection budget, coordinates collection development policies, and leads strategic planning and project initiatives that align collections with the teaching and research needs of students and faculty. The role advances the vision of the James B. Duke Memorial Library as an innovative, collaborative hub that integrates in-person and digital resources to engage patrons and the broader community. The librarian oversees and optimizes metadata services, including cataloging materials, managing and troubleshooting OCLC library management software, developing workflows, and implementing effective approaches to metadata management. This position also contributes to policy and procedure decisions and collaborates closely with library leadership and staff to ensure forward-looking, responsive collection strategies. This position reports directly to the Director of Library Services.
Description: A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program and 3–5 years of academic library experience are required. Candidates must have experience cataloging print and electronic resources, managing subscriptions, and resolving access issues, along with proficiency in an integrated library system and knowledge of RDA and MARC standards. Supervisory experience is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include batch editing with OCLC or MarcEdit, maintaining vendor records, experience with EZproxy, and advanced knowledge of metadata schemas such as Dublin Core to support resource organization and access.
Salary: $50,000-55,000
