DESCRIPTION
Performs responsible professional work in the Public Library providing adult reference service and related activities in the Business/ Nonprofit Research Services Unit of the Research Services Division; General knowledge of reader interests, authors, and literature to support readers' advisory services; Thorough knowledge of library principles, practices, procedures, and materials; Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends; Demonstrated proficiency with computers and current technology, including smartphones, smartboards, word processing applications, database management systems, and other relevant software.
Work is performed under the regular supervision of a senior Librarian. This is a non-supervisory position.
QUALIFICATIONS
MLIS degree or equivalent.
Cover letter and resume are required.
Possess, or eligible to obtain, NC Public Libraries Certification.
NC driver's license is required, ability to operate City fleet vehicles.
Maintain knowledge base for software and emerging technologies applicable to library services.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Ability to read, interpret, and utilize library records, reference materials, and computerized library systems.
Working knowledge of reference services and reference resources, including business reference materials.
Produce and evaluate library programs.
Solid organizational, listening, and time management skills.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
SALARY
$47,914.88-entry level annually with health, vacation, and retirement benefits.
